Abstract

Introduction: The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis grows progressively, reflecting an increase in students with this condition in regular schools.  The aim was to determine the actions and scopes of the Occupational Therapist's intervention in children with ASD who are in regular schools. Methodology: references acquired on the platforms EBSCOHOST, Google Scholar, Dialnet. Keywords used: ASD, Occupational Therapy, Regular School. Sources published between 2013 and 2019 are used. Articles prior to 2013 are included. Sources written in Spanish and English. We used 24 articles. Results: the main obstacles faced by children with ASD in regular education are the lack of knowledge about the characteristics of ASD, the lack of an interdisciplinary approach and the lack of knowledge about techniques to intervene inside and outside the classroom. The Occupational Therapist's intervention in regular schools focuses mainly on addressing sensory processing and Daily Life Activities, training teachers to modulate student behavior, contributing to the interdisciplinary team and ensuring the prevention and promotion of student’s health. Conclusions: Occupational Therapists are indispensable in the educational inclusion for students with ASD. Some aspects that demonstrate are the multimodal work, sensory and behavioral stimulation, and work with family members. In Costa Rica it is necessary to present the profile of the Occupational Therapist and the benefits that it can generate in these students.
