Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by chronic airflow limitation with pulmonary pathological changes and significant extrapulmonary changes causing important changes in the quality of life of those who suffer from it. Objective: to describe the health-related quality of life in COPD patients who attend a consultation in a primary care center in the city of Pereira, Colombia. Materials and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out that included 43 patients who are ≥ 40 years old and a confirmed diagnosis of COPD, who attended a consultation in a primary care center between June-December 2019, and met inclusion criteria; quality of life related to health was evaluated using the Chronic Respiratory Disease Questionnaire (CRQ). Results: sociodemographic characterization of the patients reported average ages 67.8 ± 7.8 years, and the predominant gender was male with 67.4%. The total score of the questionnaire on health-related quality of life had a median for the study group of 4.9 (Irq, ± 1.1). Dyspnea was the dimension with the lowest score, compared to the other dimensions of the questionnaire. Conclusion: Dyspnea is the main symptom with the greatest impact on the activities of daily life of patients and induces the sensation of fatigue and aggravates the perception of the impact of the disease in their lives.
